Friday April 25
The biggest annual coin show in the Pacific
Northwest, sponsored by the Pacific Northwest Numismatic Association (PNNA),
opened today at the Tukwila Community Center, near Seattle-Tacoma International
Airport and just a short distance south of Seattle. Convention chairman
Dick Billings reported that "It's off to an excellent start" with "good
attendance." As was the case the past two years, everyone seemed to be
pleased with the facility, was has been nicely decorated including carpeting
over the entire gymnasium floor. Reflecting a continuing strong coin
market, there is a record dealer turnout (100 booths) with a wide variety of
material available.
Saturday April 26
The PNNA convention moved into high gear on
Saturday with good turnout on the bourse floor combined with a full day of
educational programs and meetings.

The keynote address,
Discovering Numismatics:
The Basics of Coin Collecting, was given by Chris Connell from the ANA Museum in Colorado Springs, CO. |

This was followed by Bill McKivor's informative
talk, You and your Wallet — buying and selling coins, tokens, and medals in the real world,
which expounded upon some of the essential collecting topics covered by Chris, with Bill adding his own flavor
to the discussion. |
 |
Juniors on the bourse floor were excited to have
the opportunity to complete a set of numismatic items as part of the
Young numismatist (YN) "Treasure Trivia" game. Participation was excellent! |
 |
PNNA editor/webmaster Eric Holcomb received the
Nina Nystrom Memorial Goodwill Ambassador Award from PNNA president Scott Loos. |
 |
Ray Mah from Vancouver, British Columbia was

Sunday April 27
The successful 2003 PNNA convention concluded
today in Tukwila. Total convention paid attendance approached 1,000, but
was lower than in 2002. Most of the dealers, collectors and public
attending the event seemed to be satisfied, and many of the juniors really
enjoyed the Treasure Trivia game. The ANA (see above) was very pleased
with its participation, and signed up over 20 new members. The PNNA was
pleased to announce that the association's annual convention would again be held
at the Tukwila Community Center the weekend of April 23-25, 2004.
