Friday April 4 to Sunday April 6
The biggest annual coin show in the Pacific
Northwest, sponsored by the Pacific Northwest Numismatic Association (PNNA),
was once again a major success, with very strong attendance and bourse activity
Friday and Saturday, along with exhibits, awards,
numismatic theater programs on
Saturday, and a popular Young Numismatists (YN) program. There was some typical
spring rain on opening day, but is wasn't enough to keep collectors away!
 |
Two of the numismatic theater presenters are pictured below. Thanks to Dave Schmidt
for filling in for Jeff Shevlin, who was originally scheduled to give the talk
on So-Called Dollars. |
 |
Juniors on the bourse floor were excited to have
the opportunity to complete a set of numismatic items as part of the
Young Numismatist (YN) "Treasure Hunt" game. Participation was excellent again this year! |
 |
PNNA
Treasurer and Bourse Chairman Scott Loos was surprised and pleased
to receive the Bob Everett Memorial
Award. This award was presented by PNNA president Larry Gaye, who also
made a presidential award to longtime PNNA volunteers Kathy and Larry Rowe. |
 |
There were several competitive
collector exhibits this year, plus a few interesting non-competitive exhibits. |
 |
New
PNNA officers were installed at the general membership meeting Saturday evening. |
 |
Attendees once again received custom designed and struck pewter "tokens" while supplies lasted! |
Total paid attendance of the highly successful
2008 PNNA convention was estimated at well over 1,000 (probably about as high as
in other recent years), and just about everyone seemed to be satisfied. The PNNA was
pleased to announce that the association's annual convention would again be held
at the Tukwila Community Center the weekend of April 17-19, 2009.
2008 PNNA Convention Report by Bourse Chairman
Scott Loos – The PNNA completed its 59th annual convention the weekend of
April 4-6, 2008. Over 1,000 collectors explored the expanded bourse over the
three day span, sorting through the inventories of the local, regional and
national dealers. ANA Governor Walt Ostromecki was again in attendance,
running close to 100 kids through the YN treasure hunt. The
Numismatic Theater
featured four speakers – we thank them for taking the time to provide
interesting and informative talks. Eric Holcomb presented Numismatic Washingtonia (Items depicting George Washington);
Dave Schmidt talked about So-Called Dollars; Anthony Kim spoke on National Commemorative Medals Issued
between 1940 and 1982; and Buell Ish presided over the Colonial Coin
Collector’s Club meeting. The exhibit area moved across the hall this year and
featured some very interesting exhibits (Thank you, Del!!). Special thanks go
out to the King County Coin Club for all of their hard work as host club for the
event, Mike Pepka and the Boeing Employees Coin Club for their work on getting
all of the material put together for the Youth Treasure Hunt, and all of
the volunteers that gave their time and effort to help make the event a success.
Work has already begun on our 60th anniversary show – we look forward to seeing
all of you the weekend of April 17-19, 2009!!
