PNNA Spring Convention Report - 2001

Friday May 4

The biggest annual coin show in the Pacific Northwest, sponsored by the Pacific Northwest Numismatic Association (PNNA), opened today at the Tukwila Community Center, near Seattle-Tacoma International Airport and just a short distance south of Seattle. Everyone seemed to be pleased with the facility (was has been nicely decorated including carpeting over the entire gymnasium floor), and action on the bourse floor was fairly brisk for a Friday. Reflecting the current high level of activity in the coin market, there is a large dealer turnout with a good variety of material available.

Saturday May 5

The PNNA convention moved into high gear on Saturday with good turnout on the bourse floor combined with a full day of educational programs and meetings. The keynote address was given by Robert Hoge, Curator, American Numismatic Association Money Museum. His topic was An ANA Museum for the 21st Century, and he showed many interesting pictures of numismatic material in the ANA collection along with pictures of the headquarters and museum work currently under way in Colorado Springs. Earlier in the day, your webmaster was pleased and honored to receive the Bob Everett Memorial Award, and Del Cushing received the Nina Nystrom Memorial Goodwill Ambassador Award for the second time.

Sunday May 6

The PNNA convention concluded on Sunday afternoon at the Tukwila Community Center. Turnout was low on Sunday, due in part to excellent weather that encouraged people to stay outdoors, but overall the convention was a success and most of the coin dealers seemed to be satisfied with the three-day event. The PNNA was planning to host its 2002 convention the same weekend at the same location.
