National Coin Week Contest (2012) by Danny Bisgaard

Also see the ANA National Coin Week page.

The PNNA sponsors an annual contest whereby local clubs can win monetary awards for promotion of National Coin Week (NCW). Each year the ANA selects a theme for NCW to suggest different ways to promote the hobby.

The ANA announced the 2012 theme: Change in Money: Cowries to Credit Cards. To quote the ANA press release, “Money has gone through some amazing changes in history – we exchanged cowrey shells for goods and services thousands of years ago, today we swipe a plastic card or use PayPal. From the first coins and paper money to the steam coin press and polymer notes, the transformation of money is a fascinating journey.”

The 88th annual National Coin Week will be April 15-21, 2012.

Local clubs should take this opportunity to enhance their club treasury by preparing an eye popping exhibit and display it in their local community.

Local clubs that do participate should send their information to the attention of Danny Bisgaard, c/o Skip Caldwell, PO Box 2051, Salem, OR 97308. Information should include pictures of the display and a written narrative on where the display was placed as well as other activities the club did to promote NCW. Deadline for information is April 30, 2012.

Last year we had no entries. Let us increase the activity! The Olympia Coin Club has been the winner several times.

The ANA announced the 2011 theme: Blue, Gray and Greenbacks. The weeklong celebration of coins and currency commemorates the sesquicentennial of the Civil War and the numismatic changes during the conflict, which began at Fort Sumpter, S.C. on April 12, 1861.

The 88th annual National Coin Week was April 17-23, 2011.
