WCC / PNNA Fall Convention Report - 2019

Convention Report

Beginning in 2020, there will be separate fall shows in Seattle (Tukwila) and Portland, with the PNNA sponsoring the Tukwila show and the WCC sponsoring the Portland show.

The Willamette Coin Club/Pacific Northwest Numismatic Association fall show was a success for the 15th consecutive year at the Lloyd Center DoubleTree Hotel in Portland, with an active bourse and collector exhibits. As usual, there was a steady stream of registrants for more than an hour when the show opened to the public at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Thanks to all who attended!

Convention Dates/Times:

  • Dealer/exhibitor set up:
Early Bird entry also available all days:

    Friday, November 1, 3:00 - 6:00 PM.
    Saturday, November 2, 8:00 AM - 10:00 AM.
    Sunday, November 3, 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM.

  • Public show hours:
    Saturday, November 2, 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM.
    Sunday, November 3, 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM.

Understanding Exonumia Workshop was held on Saturday, Nov. 2 (9 a.m. to noon) at the DoubleTree Lloyd Center Hotel, 1000 NE Multnomah Street, Portland, OR. For more information, see the linked flyer, or contact James C. Bard, ph. 541-740-2199. The workshop was successful and well-attended.

Other convention information:

  • Approximately 90 local, regional and national coin dealer tables.

  • Located adjacent to Lloyd Center Mall and just a few blocks from the Oregon Convention Center.

  • Admission was $2.00 per day. Children under 12 were free.

  • "Early Bird" admission was available for a fee.

  • As usual, the show was in a room connected to the hotel's parking garage, immediately across the street from the main hotel entrance.

  • Free copies of the fall 2019 convention edition of The Nor'wester were available.

  • There was a collector exhibit area, on the side of the room near the entrance. The PNNA chief judge and experienced exhibitors were available to consult. Competitive exhibit awards were reinstated at the fall show in 2010, and have been continued. See the exhibit page for more information, and see the 2019 exhibit results. Beginning in 2019, the fall exhibits use the same six classes as the spring convention exhibits. The WCC will likely continue this system when it runs the show in 2020.

  • Boy and Girl Scout programs – See scouting page.

  • Hourly door prizes!

  • There were once again souvenir elongated coins with a special design for Oregon's 160th anniversary, and you could make your own with the PNNA’s “penny press.”

  • Video camera security.

Young Numismatist/Family Programs

Unfortunately ANA Past President Walter Ostromecki was not able to attend the show this year. There was an information table with various literature, and some dealers offered free coins for kids.
