December – Happy Holidays! All local coin shows for 2006 are complete, and we hope you added a numismatic item or two to your gift basket or stocking! Happy Holidays from the PNNA! The first Quarter 2007 edition of The Nor’wester was mailed. (See online editions page for this and other back issues.)

November – Coin Shows! – The popular Everett Coin Club annual show was held Nov. 18-19 at the Normanna Hall in Everett, WA. The first annual King County Coin Show, a one-day show held at the same location as the PNNA convention in Tukwila, was held on Saturday, Nov. 11, and was a big success!

October – PNNA-Willamette Coin Club 2nd Annual Fall Convention & Coin Show held Oct. 14-15, 2006, in Portland, Oregon. $1 and $5 PNNA convention scrip were available in limited quantities with serial numbers! The $5 notes sold out Saturday afternoon.

September 24 – Puyallup Fair, Sept. 8-24 – The PNNA sponsored the annual coin exhibit in the Hobby Hall, with assistance from several local coin clubs. We had handouts including magazine copies, event calendars, a coin club list and coins for junior collectors! No volunteer is knowledgeable about all aspects of numismatics – if your question wasn’t answered or if you were unable to attend the Fair, please e-mail your question to info@pnna.org, and it will be directed to a local expert for a response.

September 11 – 9/11 Fifth Anniversary – See Numismatic Remembrance article.

August 20 – ANA Convention – The ANA Anniversary Convention, also known as the World’s Fair of Money®, took place in Denver, Aug. 16-19, 2006.

June/July – ANA Reschedules 2007 Spring Convention – Citing a conflict with the Baltimore Coin and Currency Convention, the ANA has rescheduled the 2007 National Money Show from Sacramento, CA (March 23-25) to Charlotte, NC (March 16-18).

April 30 – Washington State quarter design selection – The Washington State quarter is scheduled for release in 2007. The U.S. Mint created three designs, and the public vote took place in April, after which Governor Gregoire considered the results of the vote before selecting a winner.

April 23 – PNNA Annual Convention (April 21-23). Bourse activity was very brisk – one of the best attended PNNA conventions ever!! Photo: convention “token” (pewter examples were given out with $2 paid admission). Thank you for attending the convention!!

April 23 – National Coin Week – April 16-22. Theme: A penny saved is history learned.

March/April – Nor’wester Convention Special Edition – The 2nd quarter edition of The Nor’wester is a special expanded 16-page edition for the PNNA Annual Convention in Tukwila. 750 extra copies were printed for distribution at the convention.

April 9-30 – We regret to announce that longtime PNNA stalwart Marge Farnam passed away April 8, 2006. Marge served the PNNA and the University Coin Club in a number of capacities over many years, including service as PNNA President. A memorial service was held on Sunday, April 30.

March 21 – Scholarships – PNNA awarded two scholarships – one adult and one YN (ages 13-22) – to the ANA Summer Seminar in Colorado Springs, CO. Each package includes round trip airfare, seminar tuition and room/board on the campus of The Colorado College, up to a limit of $1,000. Congratulations to winners Matthew Crane (YN) and Gawain O’Connor (adult).

February 26 – Scholarship Application Deadline is March 15 – PNNA offered TWO scholarships – one adult and one YN (ages 13-22) to the ANA Summer Seminar in Colorado Springs, CO. Each package includes round trip airfare, seminar tuition and room/board on the campus of The Colorado College, up to a limit of $1,000.

February 12 – Boling at SKCCC! – PNNA Secretary, Treasurer and Exhibit Chief Judge Joseph Boling spoke at the Feb. 9 meeting of the South King County Coin Club. His topic was “Exhibiting at Coin Shows.”

January 7 – We regret to announce that Mary Cushing, wife of PNNA director Del Cushing, passed away on Dec. 14, 2005. Mary was also a collector, was active with hospitality at PNNA conventions for many years, and was well-liked by everyone. Donations in her memory can be made to the American Cancer Society.

January 2 – Happy New Year! – The PNNA would like to wish everyone a happy new year! The PNNA is planning several exciting events and programs for 2006, including two annual conventions and a scholarship program.

January 2 – Nor’wester Mailed — The 1st Quarter 2006 edition of the PNNA’s quarterly publication, The Nor’wester, was mailed recently.
