PNNA 4th Quarter 2020 Banner

Beginning in 2020, separate fall coin shows were scheduled in Seattle (Tukwila) and Portland, with the PNNA sponsoring the Tukwila show and the WCC sponsoring the Portland show.

CANCELLED due to virus concerns!
The WCC Portland fall show was scheduled for Oct. 31-Nov. 1, 2020, but was cancelled. Next year’s show is scheduled for Nov. 12-14, 2021.

The PNNA fall show in Tukwila was scheduled for Sept. 25-27, 2020, but was cancelled. Next year’s show is scheduled for Oct. 8-10, 2021.

Due to the fall show cancellations, the 4th Quarter 2020 edition of The Nor’wester is a smaller 8-page color edition, and extra paper copies are not available. (Subscribers should have received their copies by the end of September.) Thanks to ANACS and Heritage Auctions for advertising in this edition.

Washington State (Puyallup) Fair

The Washington State (Puyallup) Fair was scheduled for Sept. 4-27, 2020, but was cancelled.

Due to the cancellation of the 2020 Fair, a smaller black & white edition of The Nor’wester was produced and mailed to members on July 27. See this (3rd Q 2020) edition. The online version is in color.

Short Snorter Project WWII book cover

75th Anniversary of the End of World War II – In addition to the U.S. Mint commemorative coin and medal, the Short Snorter Project has released a book by Thomas J. Sparks titled The Short Snorter Project – Still Keeping the Memories Alive – Commemorating the 75th Anniversary of the End of World War II. The link allows you to access the book for free on the Newman Numismatic Portal.

Another WWII story – The Occupation of Hong Kong and the Life of a Veteran by Michael Souza, an abridged version of an award-winning article originally written in 2018 for the Royal Canadian Numismatic Association’s CN Journal. This is a 50-page PDF file, well-illustrated and easy to read.

Was scheduled for April 15-16, 2020, in Tukwila, WA

PNNA Election – Ballots for the 2020-2022 term of office were emailed to members with an online subscription; and mailed along with the newsletter to members who receive paper copies. Ballots were due April 11, and the results were announced. See the PNNA Officers and Directors (Board of Directors) page.

ANA National Money Show
Feb. 27-29, 2020, in Atlanta, GA

PNNA Scholarship Competition
Competition for scholarships to the 2020 ANA Summer Seminar (June 27-July 9) in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The deadline was Feb. 15; the winners were selected, however the seminar was cancelled. Scholarships carried over to 2022.

Thanks to West Coast Coins, ANACS and other advertisers for sponsoring this 1st Q 2020 BECC coin show edition of The Nor’wester. Although this show is not a PNNA-sponsored event, it is one of the largest shows in the Northwest, and the PNNA produces a special edition for this event, which was mailed to members subscribed to paper copies on Jan. 10, 2020.

Did you know? Former U.S. Mint sculptor-engraver Thomas D. Rogers, who is a PNNA honorary life member and designed the obverse of the PNNA’s 75th anniversary medal, also has sculpted the Boeing airplanes on some recent BECC medals when commissioned by BEX Engraving of Fullerton, Calif.
