PNNA 1st Q 2024 Nor’wester

The 1st Quarter 2024 edition of the PNNA’s publication, The Nor’wester, is now available online at https://pnna.org/news/pdf/PNNAnews2024_Q1.pdf.

As announced previously, there will be only two main editions of The Nor’wester each year, for the spring convention and the fall coin show. The other two editions will be smaller like this edition. This change allows the two main editions to have more pages, more articles and stories, more photos, and additional dealer ads if requested.

Summary of 1st Quarter content:

  • PNNA President’s message by Ed Fischer.
  • Other PNNA news including brief mentions of the Washington State (Puyallup) Fair, the spring convention in Tukwila, collector exhibits and annual awards. Also, upcoming PNNA elections.
  • PNNA scholarship application for ANA Summer Seminar 2024.
  • A flyer for the BECC Coin Show, Jan. 20-21 in Kent, Wash.

Back issues of The Nor’wester are available online.

Once again, thank you for your interest in the PNNA!

Sincerely,
Eric Holcomb

Penny Press Travels East

In the past ten years I have traveled with the PNNA’s penny press to club shows up and down the I-5 corridor. Not once in all that time has the penny press made it over the Cascades – until now. Thanks to the efforts of Alan Franke, the press and I were invited to the Coeur d’Alene Coin Club show, May 14-15, 2022. Alan also arranged to have a die picturing the club logo made and available when I got there. The show was a big success and was well attended. I cranked out around 250 elongated cents during the two-day show.

I’d like to thank Alan for his efforts as well as Coeur d’Alene Coin Club president Steve Harvie and other CDACC members in attendance for the very warm welcome they gave me and the press throughout the weekend.  I look forward to coming back to future shows. – Rick Schulz.

New Token design for 75th Anniversary

In the last Board meeting we put together a team of folks that will work on creating a 75th Anniversary Token (or medal) and how we will design the finished product. Wood? Copper? Zirconium? Over the next few months, we will be creating a contest which will, we hope, motivate all of you folks out there to present possible design artwork for the upcoming celebration.  Share your knowledge, skills and input to help us on the success of this project.

Contact me at edoregon@comcast.net with your input.

Gerald Williams Honored for Exhibit

At the August 13th Mid Valley Coin Club meeting, Gerald Williams received his award for his exhibit at the April Tukwila PNNA coin show.  Gerald won 1st place under the United States and Canadian Coins category with his exhibit titled: The Arts: Numismatic Contribution of the Cooper Union. Danny Bisgaard and I, Ed Fischer, were in attendance when President Bisgaard presented Gerald his winning award.

Gerald often presents exhibits with much detail and planning. And this one was no exception. Go to the PNNA website and see the pictures.

Update (2023) – Past exhibit reports have been consolidated into PDF files. See the current completed exhibits page for links.

Congratulations, Gerald!

Greetings from Ed Fischer and what’s going on

I’m new to the Board of PNNA and new to blogging.  Hope I don’t mess it up too bad.  But not new to Numismatics.  I am involved with many Clubs in the Willamette Valley area of Oregon and love to educate and share my finds.

One of our duties as a Board Member is to visit Member Clubs.  I look forward to visiting as many as time, my job and family allow.  I plan to visit North Shore Numismatic Society on September 18th and Seattle Numismatic Society on the 20th.  In between I plan to share my love of Numismatics at the Puyallup Fair in between.  Anyone up for a road trip to Vancouver BC or Seattle?  I’m flying solo but would love to share expenses and a good conversation.  Contact me at edoregon@comcast.net if interested.
